Edinburgh Rugby’s Ongoing Commitment to Sustainability

The club has been making strides year on year to reduce waste, save energy and keep sustainability at the forefront of the players, staff, and supporters minds.

One of the most notable achievements is the club’s zero landfill waste policy, that has seen successes for over a decade. From plastic to glass, metal to grass cuttings – Edinburgh Rugby have sustainability at the core of its club.

Some key highlights of Edinburgh Rugby’s waste strategy also include:

- Leftover food redirected to an anaerobic digestion facility that converts waste into renewable electricity

- Partnerships with BIFFA and DALTONS for recycling of metal, wood, and grass cuttings

- Collaboration with ELLIOR (hospitality provider) to reduce food waste

Energy Efficiency and Carbon Reduction

As part of their environmental goals, Edinburgh Rugby is fully compliant with the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) – a UK government initiative aimed at reducing energy consumption in large businesses. Since joining ESOS in 2015, the club has made key upgrades to improve energy efficiency:

- Installation of energy-efficient lighting

- Replacement of outdated boilers and flues

- Use of a computerised irrigation system to reduce water use on the pitches

- Composting of all green waste, including grass clippings
